Well, I have been slacking on the posts, but it is finally hot and sunny here and my only excuse is I have been out enjoying the sunshine every minute I can. It's already 22 degrees here this morning and it is not even 11am yet... (I don't want to hear anything from anyone who lives somewhere 'deserty' or 'tropical' about how that's not hot... I live in Northern BC, and this is fantastic weather!!) On a side note, I was out running the other day in the afternoon heat - (which maybe wasn't my wisest decision ever) and I passed an older man walking with no shirt on and he actually shook his head at me and told me it was too hot to be running... (he was right, but I really don't like it when people try to tell me what I should and shouldn't do...
Anyways, my sunflowers are blooming. I picked a really cool variety - called
Razzmatazz Mix and my first sunflower is brown with yellow edges.. I am super impressed with them and hope to plant a bunch more of them next year...I also can't wait to see a few more open up and bloom...
The heat has also made the geraniums I started from seed bloom and grow like crazy, although it took them a long time to finally flower. I think next year I need to start them a few weeks earlier and then plant them into bigger pots while they are still in the house. I tried to keep them small in the house so that they wouldn't get leggy, but I may have delayed blooming. Also, I think my raised beds need new dirt, because none of the plants are flourishing the way I would have expected... so next year I am buying a load of topsoil and compost and spreading the goodness around my yard - gardening is too much work to have crappy soil preventing your plants from thriving...
anyways, here is a pic of my raised beds with all the flowers/plants I started from seed in my living room...

Your raised beds look great. When you said 22 degrees, was that celcius or farenheit?
celsius... my gardens would be dead if it was farenheit...lol
Looks like you've had some amazing success with all those plants you started from seed.
I'm glad to hear you're getting some heat "up there". I'm not really a hot weather lover, so I really enjoyed summers in PG when we lived there. Though, I do remember a couple of awesome days hanging out in the sun on Bear Lake. You have so many awesome parks close to the city.
We're having the same 'heatwave' in Edmonton that you're having. Yesterday it was 32.6C (91F), a record for that day in Edmonton. A few perennials are getting a little more droopy than usual. They are giving me accusing looks, since they signed on for a cold climate garden, and think I misled them.
How satisfying to have grown your annuals from seed to bloom.
Your garden looks very nice! Have a great weekend/ Tyra
Very nice really beautiful garden
Hi Breanne - it's been ages since you posted. I hope that all is well. I imagine you probably have snow in PG by now.
I'm having a Christmas giveaway on my blog this week. Just thought I'd mention it to you in case you want to come by and enter. I'm giving a way a little tree ornament I designed and made.
